Little Leonardo was in the yard on a cold wet stump looking at all of the animals and the blue sky.  Suddenly he got an inspiration and took out a paper and pencil.  He started to draw them.  Soon he drew them everyday and that is how Leonardo Da Vinci developed his love for art.

Leonardo Da Vinci was born on Saturday April 15, 1452.  He lived for sixty-six years.  Leonardo had no last name. In Italian da means from.  He was from a town called Vinci.  So his last name means from Vinci.  His father’s name was sir Pero Da Vinci.

Leonardo went to a school called St. Luke.  His inspiration for drawing animals was from the animals outside.  He loved to draw them.  Some of the people that he learned from were famous.  Some of them were scholars, kings, and other artists.  He showed his paintings to an artist named Andrea Del Verroccardo for some painting tips.  From all the advice he got he created some great paintings.

Leonardo did many other things besides being an artist.  He was a musician, mathematician, scientist, inventor, philosopher, writer, architect, and sculptor.  In his other career as an inventor his sketches of his ideas were masterpieces by themselves.  His career was very important to him.  He liked his work in art and all the other things he did.

The Mona Lisa is very beautiful. This painting shows a lady sitting on a mountain and thinking of life.  When you look a the painting the first thing you see is Mona Lisa.  The size of it is 77 by 53 centimeters.  One of the most mysterious things about the Mona Lisa is that wherever you stand she is always looking into your eyes.  In the background there are mountains and a lake.  All of the lines in the portrait have rounded off curves.  It won the title of “most famous of all paintings.”  Mona Lisa is also called La Giaconda.  This marvelous painting was painted more than 450 years ago.  It is shocking but some people chopped off the sides of the Mona Lisa.  Leonardo used squares, circles, and curved off soft edged shapes.  In this masterpiece it had gracefully smooth lines.  If you were to feel this painting it would feel soft and smooth.  Leonardo used warm colors.

The painting is very still and peaceful.  Down a winding road behind Mona Lisa the colors get warmer the farther down it goes.  The ovals on Mona Lisa’s dress repeat over and over again.  This painting shows beauty, peace, mystery and happiness.  Each side of the painting is different.  Looking at this painting you can’t see very far off into the distance.  This painting shows emotionalism.

Leonardo mostly painted people not including his pictures of inventions.  Leonardo uses realism in his work, things he has learned about.  When writing notes to himself he wrote backwards so no one could copy and keep his ideas.  Leonardo liked making things realistic so he would use nature in backgrounds.  Also, he would brush so lightly and softly that you could believe that it was a photograph.  Leonardo left unfinished paintings (I don’t know why).  One of Leonardo’s silliest things was to try and make his own paint.  It didn’t work.

Sadly Leonardo passed away on May 2, 1519.  Leonardo was a great painter, inventor, and scientist.  One of his sayings was that “art is a major path to knowledge.”  He was an important man in the world in his sixty-six years of life.  He was unique in his own special way.  In many people’s opinion he was one of the best artists in the world.  Also, the little boy who once drew animals later drew one of the best paintings of our time

Mona Lisa

With hair like a moonlight sky
And lips like a piece of red glass
Shimmering in the sunlight
A beauty is she, mysterious and
Unknown by people
Elegant but still strong,
Relaxed but not calm
Her smile is like an angel
Praying peacefully in the clouds
And that is the
          Truth
